Mango Picking/Fruit Picking
Chiguru Farm is the pioneer of Mango Picking/ Fruit Picking Events in India.
After pioneering the Mango picking event 2015, we have been conducting it till now (except during the COVID times).
Mango Picking Events will be announced here.
Booking on First-come-first served basis only. Limited entries per day.
Note that it is NOT just another mango-picking event where you simply walk-in, pick your mangoes, buy them and go back. It is not comparable to other mango-picking events taking place elsewhere around Bangalore. We do conduct fruit-picking events similar to this during rest of the year. Since we are a Natural Farm with a “Food Forest” in the center, we will always have some or the other fruit to pick and eat directly from the trees.
We don’t have any “few-hours-in-the-farm” kind of events. It is half day trip only. It is a very immersive and indulging experience. You will get to know about natural farming/permaculture, interact with farm animals, climb trees, enjoy hearty farm-fresh lunch and of course pick mangoes or any other seasonal fruits from trees too! Numbers are limited to 20-25 per day in order not to make the place crowded so that we don’t end up creating city-like atmosphere in the farm.
Mango picking tour is conducted during the mango harvesting season of April/May to June/July. You’ll take a guided walking tour around the farm where you will be able to get out in the fields and learn about the various activities in the farm. You will see how fruits & vegetables grow. You also get a chance to familiarize yourself with a wide variety of fruit plants in the farm and utilize the opportunity to pluck and enjoy the fruits (including mangoes) according to what’s in season.
By now you will be hungry, lunch will be served which is traditional rural Karnataka cuisine with a few mango-based recipe included.
The guided mango plucking involves picking the mature (but not yet ripe) mangoes right from the trees. The farm grows more than 12 varieties mangoes but majority of them are Ratnagiri Alphonso. The tress are dwarfs at this point and this makes the activity completely safe for children. After plucking the mangoes, you will wash them in water let them dry. You are free to buy them or leave them behind. You also have the option to buy semi-ripe mangoes from us instead of taking back the raw mangoes you plucked. You are also allowed to eat the mangoes that are already ripened by us naturally.
There are also other farm products available for sale.
You will be walking in the fields, so remember to wear shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Also don’t underestimate Bangalore traffic and plan to get to the farm very early, so you can make best use of your visit.
