Have Questions? We’re Here to Help

Here you’ll find answers to common questions about visits, farm practices, stay guidelines, and everything you may want to know before coming to Chiguru Farm.

Chiguru Farm is a lively 15-acre natural farm where farming and meaningful experiences come together. With over 35 varieties of fruit trees and a deep commitment to sustainability, it’s a space created for those who wish to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Here’s what you can experience at Chiguru Farm:

  • Learn organic farming the hands-on way — understand how food is grown naturally and take part in simple farm activities.
  • Harvest straight from the tree — pick seasonal fruits and enjoy them just as nature intended.
  • Spend time with our farm animals — feed and interact with cows, goats, sheep, chickens, and our friendly farm dogs.
  • Reconnect with nature — climb a tree, breathe deeply, walk barefoot on the soil, and let the quietness settle in.
  • Enjoy fresh, farm-cooked meals — prepared mostly with ingredients grown right here.
  • Experience sustainable living — see how solar energy, water harvesting, and eco-conscious practices shape everyday life on the farm.
  • Play traditional rural games — simple joys rooted in local culture.
  • Find your quiet corner — read a book, reflect, or simply sit under a tree with your thoughts.
  • Listen and look up — wake up to birdsong and, at night, gaze at a sky untouched by city lights.
  • Gather around a campfire (on cooler days) — roast cashews, jackfruit seeds, or corn and share stories.
  • Take long, unhurried walks — within the farm or through nearby village paths.

Whether you’re coming to learn, to explore, or simply to pause, Chiguru Farm welcomes you to experience nature in its most honest form.

Our focus is on self-sustenance in terms of food as well as financial. We grow almost everything required for our regular food. This includes grains like ragi, dals like toordal (redgram), urad dal (black gram), moong dal (green gram), alasande/lobia (cowpea), avarekayi (hyacinth bean), spices like turmeric and mustard, sesame, etc. apart from varieties of fruits and some vegetables. We also focus on eating what grows naturally in the farm like drumstick leaves, hongone soppu, amatekayi, sundekayi, etc. After keeping sufficient quantity for our internal use, we sell the excess produce either directly or as finished products (like cold pressed oil, powders/flours, pickle, etc).

Chiguru Farm is in HarohalliTaluk in Ramanagara District, not very far from Bangalore. It is close to the border of Tamil Nadu. You can reach either from Hosur Road via Anekal/Attibele or from Kanakapura Road via Harohalli/Maralawadi.

Depending on your location in Bangalore, it is 50 to 80kms and it takes 90-120 minutes to reach Chiguru Farm from Bangalore. Remember that you will spend most of your time to get out of the city. Wherever there is an option, it is better to take the NICE Road to get out of the city.

It is also at a similar distance from Mysore.

Roads are very good as it is next to a state highway (connecting Harohalli to Hunasanahalli).

Yes, Chiguru Farm is a pet-friendly place. However you need to follow certain guidelines if you bring your pets.

No. We don’t even intend to have one!

No. Honestly, we have not had any reason to install A/C in the rooms. The adobe blocks made from the local soil keep the interiors cool even during hot summers. Just a fan is sufficient to keep you cool and comfortable.

Probably you can as long as it is vegetarian, but there is no change in the prices. We are not a hotel, a resort or a restaurant. What we offer is a unique EXPERIENCE, which is enhanced by eating the food cooked at the farm.

Chiguru Farm is a “No Alcohol” place.

We serve local/traditional/rural vegetarian specialties. For example, typical breakfast includes things like Thatte Idli, Dosa, Pongal, Kesaribath, Upma, Poha(Avalakki), etc. Typical lunch includes things like Akki Rotti, Ragi Rotti, Ragi Mudde with Bassaru, Sweet/Khara Kadubu, Bisibele Bath, Tomato Bath, Puliyogare, Obbottu/Holige, Gasgase Payasa, etc. Our food is not very spicy and can be customized for spice level and exclusion of onion/garlic/Jain food with prior request.

Agri-tourism projects are exempted from the requirement of FSSAI certificate in Karnataka. Also the farm produce is sold directly to the end customers and therefore there is no requirement for FSSAI certificate.

There are hardly any mosquitoes in the farm although there could be a few at dusk. There could/should be other insects in the farm, but the rooms are well isolated from them with mesh on the windows. Despite that, it is still possible to find insects/frogs/lizards/spiders etc in and around the rooms as we don’t want to interfere too much into their lives!

Our “Food Forest” ensures that there is something or the other to pluck from the trees/plants throughout the year. However, each season is different and seasons are changing too. And some seasons will have more fruits and some other seasons have more pulses and grains, as mentioned in the blogpost above. Some fruits will not ripe on the tree and we have to pluck and ripen them and therefore not possible to pluck and taste directly from the trees. Although “Fruit Picking” is ONE of the activities, visits to our farm don’t start and end with “Fruit Picking” ONLY. If you are looking for “Fruit Picking” only, this is NOT the place.

A limited number of items can be taken back home and that amount is left to individual’s discretion, making sure that we don’t end up loss-making due to it! However, if you want bigger quantities, we request you to buy them from us.

Chiguru Farm doesn’t focus on growing vegetables. However self-sustenance in food is achieved by growing field crops (like toordal, urad dal, moong dal, alasande, avarekayi, etc) in monsoon which also can be used fresh for cooking. We also try to use the vegetables and greens that come up without any “cultivation” in our cooking. This includes things like drumstick leaves, hongone soppu, anne soppu, raw jackfruit, raw banana, amatekayi (Indian hogplum), sundekayi (Thai brinjal) etc. If these interest you are if they are available at the moment of your visit, you are free to pickup a few of them.

Yes, provided the FAQs in this page are read and accepted.

Yes, you can work from farm now as we have JioFi offering decent internet speed. However, if you have Airtel connection and you need to take/make voice calls, it is not possible. We only get Jio and BSNL signal properly in the farm.

We have recently introduced half day trip option, However, as you will spend at least 3 hours on road to come and go-back, it doesn’t make sense to visit us for a few hours only. Our place is spread across 15-acres and we have a lot of varieties of crops and our farm tours are educational. Considering these points, we don’t offer any trips for few hours only.
The entire focus here is on education and farm-fresh food. So it doesn’t make sense to look for visits without food. And there are no other place in the vicinity for food. But if you insist on visiting us without food, you are welcome. However our pricing doesn’t change because of this.

Chiguru Farm is surrounded by solar electric fence. But being on the edge of Bannerghatta National Park and next to the elephant corridor, there are possibilities of encountering elephants and other wild elephants on the way. Elephants, once in a while have strayed into the farm by breaking the fence, but not affected any human beings. However it is advisable to be voluntarily cautious when you are staying overnight. In general, being a natural space, there could be occasional honeybees, snakes, lizards, mongoose, etc spotted in the farm, and we shall let them be on their own without disturbing them.
Fire extinguishers are fitted in strategic location and we ensure that they are always in working condition
CCTV camera is fitted around the farm house.
